The Pavillion / El Pabellón - 2018

Action performed at Tsonami Festival de Arte Sonoro, Valparaiso, December 5-6, 2018.

This minor gesture was conceived to change how the audience perceived the soundscape of the city of Valparaiso. Here an intimate act of care (ear cleaning with therapeutic candles) of strangers by strangers changes the way one listens to the city. This action also echoed a publicity campaign of the municipality of Valparaiso’s ongoing city maintenance strategies: « Valparaíso está más limpio ».

The action was accompanied by « Tubes », an unprocessed four track field recording composition. Field recordings made in the dunes of Ciudad Abierta in Ritoque, Chile. Recordings made through two types of hollow steel rods of different lengths found on site.
